Shear-Cut Bowls (Various Designs)

Description

Variety of shear-cut wooden bowls. Click on the diameter to see an image of the actual bowl and for more information. A series of shear-cut holly bowls turned on a pole-lathe. I have imagined these bowls for sometime, ever since I made my holly bowl for the 52weeks52bowls project. I discovered that unseasoned holly is so waxy that I could let my hook tool take a shear-scraping cut all the way round the bowl and leave a very clean finish. This is a very tricky cut to do, getting progressively harder as you edge up the bowl. These bowls are all about the tool marks, with each tool-stroke leaving a careful mark on the surface.
